I found the comment about reading fascinating. I learned to read when I was four, sitting on my father's knee. When I read fiction, and to a lesser degree, some non-fiction like autobiography, history, etc., I see pictures in my head. Movies that accompany and are driven by the words. Of course, things like Kant, Sartre, et.al., are a different kettle of fish.

It's funny to hear you say all this, because I remember your room being full of books, piles of them, and they weren't the Hardy Boys. And when we'd stand outside at school discussing nihilism, or some other heady thing, you always had some latest book or film to suggest. I never doubted your smarts. And very little of school was worth it, truly. Excessive absence? Welcome to the the club.

Keep writing. Practice does help and your ability to tell slice-of-life stories is great. Your writing about things you see and do is compelling.
